Electrolysis

Expert Care For Your Electrolysis

There are a few different methods of Electrolysis and here at Ashe Day Spa we chose to use Thermolysis as our form of permanent hair removal. The technician inserts a very fine probe, roughly the same size of the hair into the hair follicle and delivers heat to effectively destroy the cells responsible for hair growth. Small areas are the most common, such as the face, since we are treating 1 hair at a time. Thermolysis is suitable for all skin and hair types. Multiple sessions are required to achieve permanent results as hair grows in cycles and not all follicles are active at the same time. Sessions typically start on a weekly basis and begin to space out as the hair cells die off. The initial session is referred to as the clearing session which may take longer, however the follow-up appointments are then shorter since the technician only needs to target the hair that has grown in between appointments.

Electrolysis

How does electrolysis work?

A device is placed along the hairs route into the follicle. An electric current is applied that creates heat and chemical reaction to destroy the follicles capacity to produce more hair.

What should I expect after an electrolysis treatment?

Sometimes a small blood scab could appear at the site of an electrolysis treatment. Do not pick at the spot or scab. Depending on your skin type, this spot could take 7-21 days to heal.

How can you tell if electrolysis is working?

The first sign that electrolysis is working is the hair growth becomes softer, finer and lighter in colour.

Should I avoid the sun before and after electrolysis?

Yes, you should avoid the sun the days before and after your electrolysis appointment. The sun can dilate blood vessels and cause skin to be red and irritated. After electrolysis your skin may be more prone to hyperpigmentation and more photo-sensitive.
